Lagoon 380 Catamaran

Whether you have dreamed of the brilliant waters of the Bahamas . . .

or perhaps the Eastern Caribbean . . .

There is no more-perfect catamaran than the Lagoon 380 Owner's Version: the World's most popular offshore catamaran with well over 500 produced since 1998. It is offers great bridgedeck clearance and the most-comfortable layout in its class.

Indigo Moon has thousands and thousands of dollars in custom options, including professionally installed stainless steel rub rails

With wide hulls and large transoms aft, Indigo Moon is still very competitive in its class, averaging a little over seven knots fully loaded for cruising. She has more storage space and carries more weight than many competitive 41 and 42 foot catamarans.

This view accentuates the hull shapes that were a breakthrough design for Lagoon: wider aft and still fast.

In the slings at Fort Lauderdale

At the helm, a custom stainless steel mount places the Furuno 24 mile color radar and GPS plotter at your fingertips; the VHF RAM mic also keeps you in contact at the helm.

The anchor locker with 200 feet of brand new 3/4 inch New England rope rode spliced to 100 feet of 3/8 inch BBB chain that was factory regalvanized in Cartagena Colombia. The Windlass was refurbished in Venezuela by adding a new heavy stainless steel bottom plate to the unit, making it very easy to remove for future service if ever needed. There have been problems with the base plates cracking on some of these windlass units. That problem has been fully and definitively eliminated on Indigo Moon.

On a mooring at SABA in the Eastern Caribbean, Indigo Moon is fully loaded for cruising and perfectly balanced. We raised the waterline of the bottom paint three inches before setting sail: the hull was lightly sanded above the original waterline and then sealed with interlux epoxy and then painted with anti fouling. This is an expense that new cruisers always face, and all those "little" expenses snowball and really add up. There is nothing left to do to Indigo Moon to make her cruise-ready.

Trust me: this is more fun than working on a boat and getting it ready for cruising. And more: what better way to soak up the cruising life than lounging on the custom trampoline that is so very comfortable. Made of "supertramp" material that is now standard equipment on many brand new cruising catamarans, Indigo Moon's trampoline is super-reinforced on its borders with imbedded webbing, six rows of stitching, and each grommet area super-stiched with an added square of trampoline material under each grommet area. Of course, all of the work is done with tenara thread that is totally impervious to the sun and will outlast the supertramp material itself. The trampoline shows no wear at all to date and is yet one more catamaran concern that has been cured on Indigo Moon.

The cockpit of Indigo Moon becomes part of the Saloon when the sliding door and window over the Galley are open. When sunshades are up, the boat becomes the best "back porch" in the world; an absolutely perfect platform to sample paradise.

Indigo Moon's escape hatches have never leaked a drop. Earlier models had only two latches and one gasket. Indigo Moon's generation of Lagoon have two gaskets and three latches with aluminum (instead of plastic) components outside. This is the best combination. It does not leak and has been perfectly reliable, but still allows both opening and closing as needed in an emergency.

WHO DAT flying that purple spinnaker? It doesn't get any better than this!

All the Caribbean can be yours. With its shallow draft, Indigo Moon always seems to find a front row seat in paradise! So who needs to bother with the dinghy; just dive-in and swim to the beach . . . that is one exercise program that comes naturally!

How about the San Blas Islands off of Panama? That looks pretty good too!. It's all yours on Indigo Moon.

Stable and sure footed, the Lagoon 380 has a beam to length ratio of well over fifty-percent, making her a very dependable offshore cruiser and happy at anchor, even if the swells start coming in.

In the cockpit, a custom teak grate keeps things clean

Is it time for you to wave goodbye and take your turn cruising? Remember, "life is not a dress rehearsal" and if you can afford to go now, there is no better way than to buy a boat that's ready to go and go for it today!

We've enjoyed our Ocean XL kayak. We also have the optional seats and life jackets for longer journeys.

In the salon, the slickest television mounting in any Lagoon 380 I have ever seen. At the navigation station: B&G repeater instrumentation, autopilot remote control, second Furuno radar/gps display, additional 12v distribution panel, high water alarms for keels and bilges, additional automatic bilge pump systems for each hull, JVC dvd/cd player, 12 disc CD changer and ICOM PCR-1000 SSB radio receiver.

The trademark vertical saloon windows offer 360 degree panoramic views and also provide three absolutely indispensable advantages: 1) shade in the hot tropical sun: 2) amazing increases in headroom and space; and 3) the ability to safely stand watch inside offshore. Quite frankly, after owning Indigo Moon, I would not entertain owning any other catamaran for that reason alone.

She looks like this right now. Still beautiful and pampered, she is already a comfy home. All you have to so is move right in.

YES! It's a catamaran. While sailing flat, all these nice things stay put.

We have really enjoyed our home at sea.

Buy a smaller boat and get a bigger bunk and more storage space! Both aft cabins offer Queen size bunks with a large dressing area, even a bench seat in the owner's cabin. In other catamarans in her class, including some 41 and 42 footers, the aft cabins are much smaller and also have engines located directly under the bunks. Also, on some of those cats, the bunks are aligned perpendicular to the hulls, requiring folks to crawl over one another to get in and out of the bunk. Indigo Moon is perfect and has no equal in her class. The cabins are huge, the bunks are huge, the bunks are aligned fore and aft, and under the bunks are huge, cool, dry storage spaces. This design was new for Lagoon with the introduction of the 380 in 1998. Now, this now design has permeated the entire Lagoon line. It's no mystery that the Lagoon 380 is the most popular blue water catamran in the world.

The Owner's hull looking from the bunk forward to the head with separate standup shower with seat. The shower is a large as you'll find on many multi-million-dollar catamarans.

The aft bunk in the port (guest) hull.

The forward bunk in the port hull.

And all those bunks will come in handy! You need lots of rest if you're going to see Manhattan! While the Caribbean is a wonderful destination, so is the East Coast of the good old U.S.A. and Indigo Moon is small enough to still find marina space and make the scene on the east coast. We have never had trouble getting into a marina when we wanted to. Indigo Moon has been the perfect size vessel for so many reasons that it beyond the scope of what can be written here. You'll have to come see her and spend all day to get the full story!

Hey! Let's EAT! Indigo Moon comes fully equipped with rods and reels, lures and spare line, rod holders, belts for fighting fish, gaff, filet knife and everything needed to get dinner on the go. Also, there is a full compliment of pole spears, tickle stick, snare and net, and other "critter getters" to coax lobsters into your cooking pot.

Phasor diesel generator with sound shielding removed for a better look: three cylinder Kubota diesel is super-dependable; generator is mounted on custom, glassed-in floor, and in a stainless steel pan. A custom softside sound shield on a custom stainless steel frame covers the generator and the sound shield even incorporates two vents and an electric fan in one to circulate fresh air into the generator.

Starboard engine compartment: servicing these engines is as good as it gets in any vessel. With the engines located outside the living quarters and in huge lockers, maintaining this vessel is a joy, not a hassle.

With these first-class pool floats, a relaxing afternoon is guaranteed.

Perfect for diving, the Lagoon 380's starboard transom does not have a ladder and offers a large area to don dive gear and enter the water without any obstructions whatsoever. When the dive is completed, the port transom offers a swim ladder for returning to the boat. Thus, two hulls really are better than one when it comes to scuba diving from your own boat.

I custom-made these awnings during Hurricane Season in Venezuela. The fit and finish is so very perfect and taught that these awnings do not have to be taken down in squalls. The awnings have perfectly withstood gusts in the thirty knot range when afternoon squalls rumble through the marina or anchorage. Since making these awnings, several catamaran owners have come and photographed them extensively to have canvas shops create an exact replica. In the hot tropics, these shades reduced the interior ceiling temperature in the salon by ten degrees. That allows air conditioning to really get cold and keeps electricity costs down in those marinas that charge by the kilowatt hour. Also, it is very easy to just put up the forward awning over the trampoline and make the best "tree-house" in the world that faces the trade winds and that beautiful beach you are anchored off of. Bring a book, a cold beverage, and several throw pillows with you and the trampoline becomes a tent fit for a King.

So what say you? Are you ready to go? All of this and more can be yours! Pack your bags. Buy groceries and fuel. And set sail NOW! After all, isn't it finally your turn to live the dream?
